125th Anniversary
In May 2010 we mark 125 years of Anglican ministry in this parish. The first service was held on 3rd May 1885 in a temporary church building near the corner of Brunswick Avenue and Vernon Street, Strathfield. The first Rector (the Reverend Herbert Rose) was appointed later in the same year, although the present St Anne’s building on Homebush Road was not commenced until 1892.
Celebrations included a reunion dinner at Strathfield Golf Club on Saturday 1st May, and special services on Sunday 2nd May. Bishop Peter Watson (formerly Bishop of South Sydney, then Archbishop of Melbourne) was guest preacher at 8am & 10am; and James Toose (from CMS), who attended St Anne's in the 1960's, was guest preacher at the 7pm service. Catch up on the sermons here.
Connect for Life
Connect for Life (which began as Connect 09) is a focus for all Sydney Anglicans, commencing in 2009 and continuing on through 2010. Our aim is to pray for people, and to personally contact every resident in our area with the word of God. Our hope is that people will connect further with our churches and with Jesus Christ.
We are hoping to visit many homes in the area to offer residents a free copy of the gospel of Luke, together with some information about St Anne’s. We look forward to meeting you.
